Board Officers

Chairman

The Chair is responsible for unity and group conscience of Region 8. Establishes, maintain, and presides the agenda for all Board Meetings and Business Sessions. Attends the World Service Business Conference. The Chairman is the deciding vote when there is a tie.

Vice-Chairman

The Vice Chair assumes all duties of Chairman in his/her absence and coordinates all Business Assemblies by assisting Intergroups bidding for or hosting a business assembly. The Vice-Chair Approves Flyers/registration forms being posted on the Region 8 Website.

Secretary

The Secretary records the minutes of all meetings; creates and distributes the assembly packet; and maintains the tape library of past business assemblies.

Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for accounts receivable; accounts payable; bank deposits and reconciliations; collecting and distributing mail; filing taxes; and reports Region 8 financial status.

Parliamentarian

The parliamentarian advises the region 8 board as to proper parliamentary procedures for conducting the business of the Assembly. The parliamentarian remains neutral and does not vote.

WS Regional Trustee

Assists as needed in the organization and operation of service structures within region 8 and acts as a liaison between the Board of Trustees and the region wide membership. Each Region Trustee serves a three-year term on the World Service Board of Trustees. Although each Region Trustee represents a specific Region, s(he) serves Overeaters Anonymous as a whole. Trustees meet four times a year to conduct OA business.

Elections

Elections will be held annually in November. Each Board member is elected for a two-year term: Chairman and Treasurer in odd years; Vice-Chairman and Secretary in even years.


Funded Committees

Ways and Means Committee

Select a CPA to perform an annual audit. Review Treasurer’s accounting procedures and make recommendations for needed changes. Ensures that all Federal and State documents and filed in a timely manner. Examines financial records at each Assembly and present a report of such review. Ensures that annual IRS report is satisfactorily completed in a timely manner. Prepares proposed annual budget which shall be presented at November Assembly. Reviews financial issues presented to the Ways and Means Committee and make appropriate recommendations to Assembly. Informs Intergroups about availability of financial literature. Stresses the importance of the Seventh Tradition, and the need to contribute financially to all levels of OA Service Bodies. Submits articles to SOAR 8 Newsletter relative to good financial policies and record-keeping. Solicits ideas for ways to improve the financial status of Region 8 and WSO.

The Ways and Means committee has 2 sub-committees: Accountability and Fund-Raising.

Intergroup Outreach Committee (IGOR)

Welcomes and offers aid to new unaffiliated Groups. Acts as the liaison between Region 8 and unaffiliated Groups. Helps Groups who wish to affiliate with an Intergroup, or form their own Intergroup. Helps large Intergroups divide into smaller Intergroups, if they desire. Encourages Intergroups to have a Speakers List. Encourages the formation of new Groups. Encourages Groups and Intergroups to send a Rep to Assembly, and a Delegate to WSBC. Encourages the use of Twelve Traditions to promote and protect the growth of members, groups, and Intergroups.

IGOR has three sub-committees: Referral, Assistance, and Intergroup Chairs

Publications Committee

Produces, updates, and revises Region 8 Publications as directed by the Assembly. Produces three newsletters per year. Each newsletter is published six weeks prior to the Business Assembly. Promotes the Lifeline magazine and encourages members to submit articles and shares to Lifeline. Maintains Region 8 website, email accounts, and email subscription services

The Publications committee has five sub-committees: Newsletter, Editing, Production/Distribution, Lifeline and Computer Services

PI/PO (Public Information/Professional Outreach) Committee.

The PI/PO committee encourages and assists groups and Intergroups in providing public awareness of Overeaters Anonymous through print and broadcast media, participation in community health fairs, and any other public means. Has video and audio tapes available for sale. Plans workshops at Assemblies to help motivate groups, Intergroups, and members to become more involved in effective ways of communicating with the media.

Twelfth-Step-Within Committee

The Twelfth-Step-Within Committee primary purpose is to generate membership retention and recovery within the Fellowship by carrying the OA message to members, Groups, and Intergroups who are still suffering.

The Twelfth-Step-Within Committee has three sub-committees: Within Road Show, Care package – 30 questions, and Email Sponsorship.

Bylaws and Policy and Procedure Committee

Bylaws and Policy and Procedure Committee reviews and propose changes to Region 8 Inc’s current Bylaws and Policies and Procedures. Advise other service bodies on forming, adopting and/or refining their own bylaws. The Bylaws and Policy and Procedure Committee primary purpose is to fosters a greater awareness for the uses and purpose of our bylaws and policies and procedures. Calls to the attention of the Board and of the fellowship any violation of the Twelve Traditions, Bylaws and/or the Policies and Procedures.

Young People Committee

The Young People Committee creates a communication network within each Intergroup in Region 8 which will help reach young people who come to OA. Works with groups, Intergroups, and members to share the message of recovery to young people in OA. Encourages participation in the World Service Pen-Pal program.
